Virtus Training for all Shrine of Our Lady Volunteers

 All volunteers are required to attend one session of the Diocesan Virtus training if they have not already attended a session in their own parish.  all new volunteers must attend a training as soon aspossible according to the Diocesan schedule.   Thank you for your sincere cooperation in this matter.  Log on to virtus.org for schedules of training sessions throughout the diocese of Rockville Centre. 

Groundskeeping

SPRING 2013 WE ARE IN DIRE NEED FOR NEW VOLUNTEERS TO WATER OUR GROUNDS DAILY! WITH 65 ACRES NOT FULLY SUPPLIED WITH IN-GROUND SPRINKLER HEADS WE ARE ASKING FOR VOLUNTEERS TO WATER AND PRAY VERY SPECIFIC AREAS OF NEWLY PLANTED FLORA!  CAN YOU GIVE A FEW HOURS PER WEEK?  CALL THE FRONT OFFICE AT 631-325-0661

Volunteers are always needed to help keep our grounds beautiful and safe. If you enjoy being in nature and doing service in a peaceful environment we need help pruning, clipping, cutting, planting and landscaping throughout the shrine. Professional contractors and landscapers are welcome too.

Shrine Housekeeping

The thousands of pilgrims who come to the Shrine are welcomed with a cheerful and clean environment!  Do you have a special desire for dusting and vacuuming our chapel and church, Pilgrim Hall?  Three hours a week would be most helpful to our weekly staff.  Call the front office at 631-325-0661 to volunteer.  All supplies will be made available. 

St. Joseph's Coffee Shoppe

Volunteers are needed for light food preparation, serving hot and cold beverages and check-out at the cash register. Clean-up of tables and the kitchen area enable us to provide a clean and safe environment to our pilgrims. Our Coffee Shoppe opens at 10:00 am and closes at 4:00 pm. You may offer your service for all or any part of any day. Weekends and Holy Days are busiest when we most need help. Please call "Angela," our Coffee Shoppe Manager at the Shrine Office at 631-325-0661 Friday, Saturday or Sunday for more particular information.

St. Theresa's Gift Shop and Bookstore

Volunteers are needed to assist our visitors in their purchases of religious articles, souvenirs and books. Our store opens at 10:00 am and closes at 4:00 pm. You may offer your service for all or any part of any day. Weekends and Holy Days are busiest when we most need help. Please call "Sue," our Gift Shoppe Manager at the Shrine Office at 631-325-0661 for more particular information.

Office & Fundraising

Volunteers are needed for phone receptionists, help with mailings, distributing flyers throughout the area and other general office work. Fundraising volunteers needed to assist at fundraising events: ticket sales, raffle sales and event planners. Any creative ideas for other fundraising events are always welcome!

We would like to invite many different people to be involved in the liturgical life of the Shrine. We are all part of the Body of Christ and our talents are given to build the community. Ideally, liturgical ministers could serve at the Shrine once a month, so not to take anyone away from their parish commitments. Lectors

Lectors are needed at all daily, Sunday and special masses. If you are already trained and function as a lector in your parish, you may serve here at the Shrine as your schedule would permit. You may also be trained for this ministry by Fr. Roy at the Shrine.

Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist

If you are already commissioned in your parish, you may also serve at the Shrine as needed when called forth by the celebrant during the Mass.  You may offer your service to the celebrant before the Mass begins.

Music Ministry

We would like to develop a pool of musicians who could lead us in song and enhance our worship and devotions at the Shrine. Cantors, choral singers and musicians of the guitar and keyboard or other instruments are all welcome to volunteer their services. If you are interested in ministering here on a weekly, monthly or "as needed"  basis, please be in touch with Fr. Roy at shrineoffice@optonline.net Groups and individual musicians may also schedule a special event and are welcome to sell their music after the Mass.

Altar Servers

We are beginning a program to train altar servers for service at the Shrine: for Mass and devotions at the indoor "Pilgrim Hall"  and at the outdoor Shrine at the "Rock". Young people, boys and girls who are at least eight years old can join the training that is held each Saturday at 10:30am in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Teens and young adults are also welcome to serve. You can begin training at any time.

Ushers

We are always in need of people to help greet and assist our pilgrims. Our ushers help to make the collection of the gifts. You can offer your service when attending any Mass as needed or commit to a schedule that fits yours.
